DESCRIPTION
Born in 1939 in Fresno, California, I am a first-generation Portuguese American who moved to San Francisco in 1970 to pursue painting. I studied at the Academy of Art under Joan Brown and later at the San Francisco Art Institute, shaping my figurative approach and artistic direction. After years painting independently in San Francisco, I returned to Fresno, where with the support of my wife and four children. I continued to work and produce art steadily. In 1999, I joined Fig Tree Gallery and had my first solo exhibition. My mixed-media work is intuitive and expressive, often reworking earlier pieces, guided by the belief: “I don’t paint to live, but live to paint.”
